COVID-19: The Mortality Mystery

Friends,

I have a reflection to share, and it led to an insight that came to me the other day. To preface, I am not saying this is a matter of fact - rather an intriguing point of view I found upon investigation of the science.

Over the last few years, this notion of the feminine rising has been slowly and methodically coming to the fore.

To clarify, when speaking about feminine, I do not mean female. I mean the feminine energy, the yin, the vibration of creativity and stability - a slow and receptive holding of space, followed by discernment in action and clear soft boundaries and communication.

For the last century and beyond, our society has not respected or prioritized this energy as an integral gateway in the realm of the yang -the energy of action, outcome and moving forward.  Rather, we choose to compartmentalize and over function as a means to get things done and get ahead.

What is overlooked however is this. The resources to support this activity is sourced from yin energy, and if not checked will deplete over time. Why is this relevant to now and how does this relate to COVID -19?

Our bodies are combined of both yin and yang organs. The yang organs are the ones that function - they  move things down and out - the stomach , the large intestine, small intestine, gallbladder and urinary bladder.

The yin organs are the ones that provide structure (connective tissues - bones, ligaments, joints, tendons)  and transform (fluids - blood, lymph, intracellular fluids). They produce, receive, store, discern, and assist; the spleen, lungs, heart,  liver, and kidneys.

In essence, the yin is the "battery pack" for our bodies to function.

If we look at the coronavirus, it is a respiratory disease, it attacks the lungs - the most fragile yin organ causing severe dryness and breathing problems. The individuals who are most at risk are the elderly and those with heart disease, and diabetes.

Age is a function of depleted kidney energy as we are born with a limited supply that gets used as we live. We can't make more kidney energy, but we can conserve it with lifestyle. Depleted kidney energy is a precursor to low immunity. The organs involved in the other pre-existing conditions are the kidneys, pancreas and heart - all yin and yin accessory organs.

The most interesting and corroborating statistic is reported in this article,  where even though more women are being infected by this disease, the mortality rate in men is much higher.

This supports my theory that this is a disease bringing awareness to the essential and invaluable nature of the feminine.  As women, being the yin species, they have more naturally occurring yin energy and therefor have greater immunity relating to the yin organs than men do.

Societally however, we have all chronically been exploiting the feminine yin energy as a means to further our yang motivations for decades, and it has had a significant impact on both men and women - leading to imbalances physically, energetically, hormonally and emotionally. I see this in my practice daily and work with individuals on many different layers to remedy this.

Yet, whether it is in our bodies, our careers, our relations with each-other and even the ultimate yin resource - mother earth - our collective lifestyle has rendered us susceptible to this virus-  and it is a potent messenger.

We are in a time where nature is sending a message loud and clear. It is imperative to our survival to slow down, to stop the overdoing, over functioning, bypassing and constant over producing and restore and resource our essential yin nature and allow her anchor to lead us towards wise action that holistically nourishes and moves us forward as a species with integrity.

When action is taken from this place there is a natural occurring rhythm and true authentic wellness and longevity through balance.

Both men and women need to nurture the yin essence and it can be done through diet and lifestyle.

Below are foods that can be eaten in moderation. Too much yin energy can slow the yang energy ( metabolism and proper digestion / elimination).

General Foods to nourish lung yin

Pears ( highly recommend to eat a pear a day these days) , peach, apple, banana, fig, strawberry, tomato, string bean, seaweed, kelp, spirulina, soy milk, tofu, tempeh, pork, oyster, butter, milk, cheese, pine nuts.

General Foods to Nourish Kidney Yin

Kidney yin supplies Yin to the whole body (especially important for Heart, Liver and Lung Yin), so it's imperative to eat foods that support your kidneys. Nourishing Kidney Yin helps to reduce stress, support renewal, augments fluid metabolism, and promotes proper growth and development of the body.

  • Millet, barley, tofu, string bean, black bean, black soybean, mung bean and its sprouts, kidney bean and most other beans, kudzu root

  • Watermelon and other melons, blackberry, mulberry, blueberry, huckleberry

  • Water chestnut, wheat germ, potato, black sesame seed

  • Seaweeds (including hijiki and wakame), spirulina, chlorella

  • Sardines, crab, clam, eggs, pork, and cheese.
